LONGi has launched an expanded portfolio of battery energy storage and microgrid solutions for Eastern Europe at an event in Greece attended by key customers and partners from the solar and energy sector. The launch introduces three solutions covering all-in-one C&I storage, configurable long-duration storage and microgrid applications. Hi-MO One MONA provides integrated C&I storage for energy shifting, peak management and increased use of on-site solar generation, with multiple units able to operate in parallel where greater capacity is required. Hi-MO One Pro allows power and energy capacity to be configured independently, supporting storage durations of up to 24 hours. OneNexus H2 combines battery storage with microgrid control to coordinate solar generation, grid supply, batteries and generators, including on- and off-grid operation.

The launch comes as Eastern Europe’s renewable build-out moves faster than parts of the region’s electricity infrastructure can accommodate. Grid constraints are already limiting the integration of additional renewable generation, periods of surplus solar power are driving curtailment and very low or negative electricity prices, and growing volumes of variable generation are increasing balancing needs. At the same time, security of supply and energy resilience remain significant concerns across parts of the region. These developments are increasing demand for battery storage and microgrids to manage surplus renewable generation, relieve pressure on constrained electricity networks and strengthen local energy supply.

“Europe has made significant progress in adding renewable generation, but the next phase will depend on how effectively that electricity can be integrated and used,” said Jia Chao, President Europe for LONGi Distributed Generation. “Storage allows businesses to protect the value of their solar investment as power markets become more volatile. It also changes the economics of renewable energy by giving customers greater control over when electricity is used and what they depend on the grid to provide. That flexibility will become increasingly important as Europe builds a more decentralised electricity system.”

Hi-MO One Pro and Hi-MO One MONA cover integrated and long-duration storage for C&I applications

Both storage systems are based on LONGi's Hi-MO ONE platform, developed for commercial and industrial customers that need to store energy, manage electricity demand and increase the flexibility of their energy supply. Hi-MO ONE brings battery storage together with LONGi-developed power conversion, battery management, energy management and thermal management technologies within an integrated technology platform. The platform also incorporates LONGi's Intelligent Cell Control System (iCCS), which monitors battery behaviour at individual cell level to identify developing abnormalities and enable predictive risk detection. Hi-MO One MONA and Hi-MO One Pro translate this platform into two different storage architectures: MONA as a compact all-in-one system, and One Pro as a configurable long-duration solution in which power and energy capacity can be scaled independently.

Hi-MO One MONA combines 125 kW of rated output power with 261 kWh of storage capacity in a liquid-cooled LFP system. Its all-in-one architecture integrates battery storage, power conversion, battery management, energy management and thermal management within each complete unit, providing a compact solution for C&I storage applications. Multiple units can be combined where greater system capacity is required, with power and storage capacity scaling together. MONA supports both on-grid and off-grid operation, including independent off-grid operation, allowing businesses to maintain local power supply where grid electricity is unavailable. Typical applications include a factory charging the battery when electricity is cheaper and using it during more expensive production hours, a commercial building using the battery to reduce peak demand, or a business increasing the use of electricity generated by its on-site solar system.

Hi-MO One Pro is engineered for C&I applications where power and energy capacity need to be configured independently. The system separates its 261 kWh DC battery cabinets from AC power equipment available in 125 kW and 250 kW configurations. Battery capacity can be expanded independently according to the required storage duration. Its 1+11 configuration allows one AC unit to be combined with up to 11 DC battery cabinets, supporting storage durations from two to 24 hours. This is particularly relevant for a manufacturing site that needs several hours of backup but only a defined level of output power, a solar-intensive business that wants to shift a larger share of daytime generation into evening or overnight operations, or a site where longer-duration storage is required without oversizing the power-conversion equipment.

OneNexus H2 brings storage and local energy sources together in a microgrid

OneNexus H2 is engineered for businesses that need to manage several sources of electricity as one local energy system. Available in configurations ranging from 50 to 125 kW and 104 to 261 kWh, the system combines battery storage with a hybrid PCS and energy management system and can coordinate solar generation, battery storage, the grid and a generator. Its microgrid architecture enables switching between on-grid and off-grid operation within 10 milliseconds and provides black-start capability, allowing a site to restart local power supply without first relying on the external grid.

The system also addresses sites where the grid is available but cannot provide all the power a business requires. Through its Utility Grid Boost function, OneNexus H2 can supplement the available grid connection with battery power when site demand exceeds grid capacity. Typical applications include a factory whose production load exceeds its available grid connection at certain times, a commercial or industrial site that needs to maintain critical loads during a grid outage, or a remote operation where solar, battery storage and a generator need to work together, with the battery helping to reduce generator runtime and fuel consumption.

“The energy challenges facing businesses across Eastern Europe are increasingly diverse, and they cannot be addressed with a single storage configuration,” said Adrian Kočan, General Manager Eastern Europe, LONGi Distributed Generation. “The business case for storage depends on the individual site, its load profile, available grid capacity and the role that solar already plays in its energy supply. For some companies, the priority is improving the economics of self-generated electricity. For others, storage has to support expansion, provide several hours of energy availability or become part of a local energy system that can operate with greater independence from the grid. The important point for this market is that storage architecture has to follow the business case. That is the approach we are taking with this portfolio in Eastern Europe.”

Storage becomes critical as Eastern Europe adds renewables and confronts grid constraints

Eastern Europe's electricity systems are coming under greater pressure as renewable generation grows. Greece is experiencing rising curtailment and periods of very low or negative electricity prices. Slovakia already factors system flexibility into how much additional solar and wind capacity can be connected, and Moldova is developing additional balancing capacity as it integrates more renewable generation. Hungary's high share of solar generation is increasing flexibility needs. Poland, Czechia and Bulgaria are also expanding storage and flexibility measures.

North Macedonia is integrating storage into its energy-market framework as renewable capacity expands. In Ukraine, electricity-system resilience and security of supply remain significant priorities. For businesses across the region, these developments increase the need to maximise the value of solar generation, manage limited grid capacity and maintain reliable power supply.

LONGi's expanded portfolio is designed to address these requirements at site level through integrated C&I storage, independently configurable long-duration storage and microgrid systems that coordinate local generation, storage and grid supply.
