An outdoor comparison test in Liaocheng, Shandong Province, China, found that LONGi HPBC 2.0 back contact modules achieved 2.05% higher cumulative specific yield than TOPCon modules. The test ran from 9 June to 10 September 2025 with both arrays operating without shading.‍

Liaocheng field test compares BC and TOPCon under unshaded conditions

The project is in Liaocheng, Shandong Province, China, a region characterised by seasonal variations, with dry, windy springs, abundant sunshine and hot, rainy summers. The monitoring period, from June to September 2025, covered summer and early autumn.

The comparison involved two arrays installed on a concrete rooftop, each comprising 70 modules, with 45.15 kWp of LONGi HPBC 2.0 and 44.44 kWp of TOPCon. Both arrays were installed at a fixed tilt angle of 16° and fully exposed to sunlight. From 9 June to 10 September 2025, HPBC 2.0 achieved a cumulative specific yield of 468.15 kWh/kWp, 2.05% higher than TOPCon at 458.76 kWh/kWp.

HPBC 2.0 records a 2.05% higher cumulative specific yield

The monthly comparison shows that HPBC 2.0 maintained a positive specific yield advantage over TOPCon throughout the monitoring period. The difference was highest in June at 2.96%, followed by 2.17% in July, 1.47% in August and 1.28% in September. The highest single-day advantage reached 4.10%, according to the project data.

Further field tests support BC’s yield advantage over TOPCon

The Liaocheng results add to a growing body of field evidence on LONGi HPBC 2.0 performance across different environments. From Yantai’s coastal conditions to Yinchuan’s inland climate, HPBC 2.0 recorded energy yield gains of 2.43% and 1.51% respectively, under unshaded conditions. In Sanya’s warm, humid climate, the technology delivered a 2.03% gain without shading, rising to 14.96% when partially shaded. In Thailand, where modules operate under high temperatures throughout the year, a project-specific simulation indicated a 3.3% yield advantage over conventional TOPCon modules. Taken together, these results show how BC technology’s energy yield advantage can be observed across different climates and operating conditions.
